+ TMTA Foundation
The TMTA Foundation was established in 1978 to fund education and research projects for the Texas trucking industry. The Foundation is governed by a 14 member Board of Trustees. The mission of this all volunteer organization is to work with TMTA member companies to fund educational and community service programs to enhance the understanding of and image of the Texas trucking industry, with the ultimate goal of positioning trucking as the most vital and necessary industry in Texas.
Several ideas have been developed by the Foundation that portray a positive image about the Texas trucking industry. These include external projects, such as brochures, public service announcements, industry advertisements and public school programs, and internal projects like driver/employee recognition programs. When possible, the Foundation welcomes the opportunity to join other organizations in their efforts relating to highway safety.
The Foundation depends on the support of those within the trucking industry. The proceeds from the annual Foundation golf tournament and silent and live auctions fund the bulk of Foundation activities and projects. The rest of the funds are provided in gifts from member companies and individuals. One type of gift is the corporate gift, which may be earmarked for specific types of research, educational projects, or scholarships. Another is the memorial gift, an appropriate way to honor the memory of an individual or family in the transportation industry. Lastly there are special occasion gifts, a unique way to mark a happy event in the life of a colleague or friend. The support of all these events and projects results in services turned directly back into those who make up our industry throughout the state of Texas.
Established in 2008, the scholarship is awarded to the top recipient as selected by the TMTA Foundation Board Trustees. The recipient receives an additional $2,000 scholarship.
Previous scholarship recipients:
- 2011 - Connor Davis, Temple Freightliner
- 2010 - Amanda Sorenson, Skinner Transportation Inc.
- 2009 - Lacey Sarver, Dart Transit Co.
Foundation Scholarship for Member Company Employees or Their Dependent Children
Drivers, dock workers, mechanics, office personnel - they are among the thousands of people each day who contribute to a strong, efficient motor transportation industry in Texas.
Many of these workers are or have dependents who are pursuing studies toward a higher education. The Texas Motor Transportation Foundation would like to help some of these students in their efforts by providing scholarships to Texas Motor Transportation Association (TMTA) company member employees or their dependents.
Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of their academic achievement, community involvement and financial need. The Foundation will provide financial assistance for college and trade school students. Scholarships may be used to meet such expenses as tuition, books, and housing.
The TMTA Foundation is a non-profit educational, public relations, research and community service organization created by the Texas Motor Transportation Association to promote the truck and bus industry to the people of Texas. TMTA represents more than 1,200 truck lines and allied industries operating in Texas.

Questions? Please contact Jesse Dominguez 800.727.7135.
The TMTA Foundation greatly appreciates all gifts regardless of size. For more information on how to make a donation to the Foundation, or to request a scholarship application, please call Jesse Dominguez at 1-800-727-7135.
Memorial Gifts
One of the more common ways of supporting the Foundation is in the way of gifts in memory of or in honor of an individual. These contributions are recorded in the permanent record of the Foundation and are recognized inTMTA and Foundation publications. Immediate relatives of those memorialized with the gift are notified of all donations.
Gifts of Stock
Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer. Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. You may also save by not incurring brokerage fees because you are transferring ownership rather than selling the stock.
Planned Gifts
Deferred or planned gifts enable the Foundation to plan for the future because they will be realized at some later date. You can make a planned gift by naming the TMTA Foundation as a beneficiary of a paid-up life insurance policy. A gift of life insurance entitles you to a tax deduction equal to your cost basis in the policy or its replacement cost, whichever is less. You can make a planned gift to the Foundation and receive an income for life through the establishment of a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust that names the Foundation as a beneficiary. Your attorney can advise you of the various types of charitable trusts and the estate tax benefits of each, and assist you in setting up a planned gift that is tailored to your personal needs. You may also want to talk with your attorney or financial advisor about the tax benefits of naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of your retirement plan.
Bequests
One of the easiest ways to make a gift to the TMTA Foundation is by leaving the Foundation a bequest in your will. There are several ways you can do this. You can (1) give a specific amount of money to the Foundation; (2) give a specific item of property to the Foundation; or 3) give a specific percentage of the residue of your estate to the Foundation (the residue of your estate is that which is left over after all specific gifts have been made, whether charitable or non-charitable).
Workplace Contributions
The TMTA Foundation accepts workplace contributions from member companies as well. TMTA staff can help you develop a workplace giving campaign, much like a United Way campaign, in your business.
Matching Gifts
Increase your donation with employer matching funds. Many employers will match the personal donations of its employees and associates. The program can be in conjunction with a workplace contribution campaign.
