Houston City Council Delays Vote on Truck Ordinance
for Additional 60 Days

HOUSTON- With several city council members echoing the concerns of TMTA president John
Esparza and various business stakeholders, the council acted to delay the vote of
Councilmember Adrian Garcia's truck permit ordinance for another 60 days. "This is a bad idea,
any way you look at it," said Esparza following the vote. "We have spent the better part of the
last 80 days working on this and we can't get beyond the enormous adverse economic impact
this has on the business economy."  The stake holder’s group concerns continue to go
unanswered as the deadline is extended.  "Unfortunately we are not getting answers to very
basic questions, and we all agree that this is bad for the working trucker, it’s bad for business,
its bad for Houston, and it’s bad for Texas." The next stake holder’s meeting is scheduled
for Oct 11th.
