Houston City Council Proposed Ordinance to Require Obtaining City Permits for Truck Traffic (4)

31 July 2007 Subject: Houston Regulatory Alert (4) Today the Houston City Council will be taking testimony from the public beginning at 2:00PM at City Hall. Deadline to sign up is 1:30PM in the City Secretary’s office. You can contact the City Secretary at 713-247-1840 to be placed on the list. TMTA members are reminded to provide technical prospective on the proposal during their time before the council.   TMTA representatives were on hand Monday to meet with city council members and their staffs where they were well received and encouraged to offer their testimony today. Council members urged TMTA to continue to work to offer industry prospective.   Past TMTA Chairman Johnny Walker; President of JH Walker Trucking in Houston, Rhett Eubanks; Executive Vice President of Cannonball Trucking in Houston and TMTA Governmental Relations Consultant, Mark Borskey joined TMTA President John D. Esparza Monday. The group shared their concerns about the ordinance and offered to work with the city and fellow stakeholders to develop solutions to the many questions this proposal raises.   TMTA is requesting to delay the city ordinance to afford time to put together a stakeholders group to serve as an advisory council to the city and address the industry concerns.   TMTA officials also met with Councilman Adrian Garcia late Monday where positive discussions resulted in commitments on both sides to continue to work on the issue.
