Houston City Council Proposed Ordinance to Require Obtaining City Permits for Truck Traffic (3)

24 July 2007 Subject: Houston Regulatory Alert (3) TMTA-Houston chapter members and interested stakeholders met with Houston City Councilman Adrian Garcia Monday at Brady's Landing to discuss the proposed city ordinance set to come before the city council for a vote on Wednesday, August 1.   Councilman Garcia spent the better part of two hours attempting to answer questions from concerned TMTA members and TMTA President John Esparza.  While the councilman agreed to consider the issues raised in addition to those submitted in writing from TMTA earlier in the day, it is incumbent upon TMTA members to take further action on this issue and make their position known with the voting members of the Houston City Council and Mayor Bill White.   TMTA has requested that the vote of the city council be delayed until such a time that all concerns are addressed with the very stakeholders whom will be most directly impacted. We have also offered to lead a stakeholders group to provide an avenue for direct input to Councilman Garcia to assist in solving the issues raised. The message is clear from all stakeholders; we desire to be an active part of this important process.   On Tuesday, July 31 the city council will take public testimony on this issue.  TMTA recommends that its members and other interested parties contact the City Secretary's Office at (713) 247-1840 to be put on the agenda.  The list is available on a first come first serve basis and interested parties can sign up until 1:30PM on the 31st.
