Governor issues waiver for Hours of Service, Oversize/Overweight tolerances
in wake of Hurricane Humberto Effective immediately, Gov. Rick Perry has directed the Texas Department of Transportation and the Texas
Department of Public Safety to suspend all oversize/overweight permitting requirements and enforcement for motor carriers involved in relief efforts, with the exception of exceeding posted weight limits on bridges Carriers involved in these efforts and moving loads greater than 14’ high will still need to contact the TxDOT motor carrier division at 512/465-3592 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or 512/658-1149 after hours. All motor carrier registration requirements; Single State Registration, International Registration Plan and International Fuel Tax Agreements will also be suspended for those carriers operating in Texas. Again these are all pertaining to carriers involved in relief effects. In addition, Hours of Service limitations will be suspended for all motor carriers. This does apply for the benefit of those carriers assisting in relief efforts. Insurance, CDL and safety requirements will not be excused and remain in effect and will be enforced. This waiver will remain in effect until October 6, 2007 or until further notice. Please keep the attached letter from the Governor in your cabs.
